People often make to-do-lists when they want to complete a task or get better at something.

You should also consider what NOT to do, especially if you are trying to progress in something like English.

One thing you could think about is: what could I remove?

Here are somethings I recommend removing/not doing:

  • Subtitles (especially if you have an intermediate/advanced level).
  • All learning not focused on my objective (you need to know your objective).
  • Any negative thoughts like: my English is not good compared to______; I don't have enough vocabulary; I need to learn and understand all phrasal verbs (no you don't- this is a VERY common thought).
  • Translating (write definitions of words in English/an example in English).
  • Obsessing over grammar: it is much more important in the real world to speak fluently than accurately. Nobody likes waiting for someone to say something because they are thinking of the right word/tense. People much prefer (and think their level is better) if the person is fluent but makes the occasional mistake.
  • Setting unrealistic expectations like I need to speak perfectly or I want to be native or I want to have ____ accent. Just focus on improving because it is very possible to improve your fluency incredibly in just a short time.

So, to improve your English, don't just consider what to do, also think about what NOT to do.

You just need to start...

TIPS
